Delegates Report - April 2008
Fellow WSEA 92 Members,
Today is April 15th "Tax Day", as I was dropping off my forms to be mailed to the IRS at the post office I was wondering why they don’t give you a little sticker like you get after you vote, you know like “I PAID” or something like that. Anyway…Hey this is AA, let’s get to it!
Since I last wrote in the middle of March I’ve mostly been busy getting ready for the General Service Conference (GSC) by doing a good deal of reading, going over the background material for the committee that I’m on (Policy and Admissions) as well as having a familiarity with the rest of the agenda items that I feel could possibly come to the floor during the GSC. But as my first sponsor would say “It’s physical sobriety, this is a program of members in action” action being the operative word. With that in mind I did get around our Area this last month. On March 15th there was a Conference Agenda Workshop in Cashmere that was hosted by District 05 which included members from Districts 12, 19 and 23. On March 29th I had the good fortune to attend the Combined Committee Quarterly in Ellensburg which was hosted by District 10. The event was well attended and it was wonderful to see the committees share their enthusiasm with those in attendance. Maybe it’s just me but it sure feels as if there is a new spirit of service growing in our Area. People excited about finding new ways to reach our young new comers, excited about promoting our literature and excited about gathering and maintaining the history of our WSEA Fellowship. I for one could not be prouder of our committee chairs and members who are willing to sacrifice their precious time, energy and money in the advancement of our movement of recovery. On March 30th I attended the Conference Agenda Workshop in Grandview with WSEA’s Alternate Delegate Mauro P. It was hosted by District 16 with members from Districts 21 and 24 in attendance. Mauro conducted the Workshop and did a fantastic job of presenting the Conference Agenda topics that our Area will be covering at the Pre-Conference. It is hard for me to describe just how grateful I am that Mauro is available to serve our Area as its Alternate Delegate. Mauro and I became friends as we worked together many years ago while our Area was setting the foundations for what would become the Area’s Translation Committee of which he became its first Chairman. His easy going manner, thoughtful charter and his commitment to our Area’s Fellowship made me realize then as I do now that Mauro possesses those special qualities that make for the best trusted servants. We of WSEA 92 are most fortunate to have Mauro serve us, the future looks bright indeed.
Now on to the best news of all, the Area Pre-Conference Assembly. First of all I want to convey to everyone that was involved in the preparation and execution of the Assembly my heart felt appreciation for doing such a wonderful job. Secondly, as I mentioned previously, there seems to be a refreshed enthusiasm for our Fellowship’s Legacy of service. I saw it at the Workshops and I saw it at the Assembly, that light in a members eyes when the purpose of our Fellowship becomes clear in their mind and they realize that they hold the future of our Fellowship in their hearts and that they have a vital role through their actions in perpetuating the care to those yet to come that they received upon their own entry into our Fellowship. I want to express just how gratifying it was to me to have so many share during the Conference Agenda review for the informed group conscience. Each and every one of you that shared will be there with me at the GSC as I reflect upon my notes and consider the significance of your insight in regard to the issues that I will be facing during my Conference participation. It is exciting for me to be involved in our Area’s service as your Delegate preparing for his first trip to the GSC knowing that I have the support and informed group conscience of so many.
I know it seems premature but dates for post GSC Delegate’s reports are starting to be filled. Currently I have the following: May 10th – Lewiston, May 24th – Tri-Cities, June 21st – Yakima. For you DCMs who do not have dates yet don’t worry if your not sure when your District may have the opportunity for a Delegates report I’ll be contacting you when I get back and we can work it out then.
As always please feel free to contact me at any time (even during the GSC) and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. Until we meet again take care.
Yours in the Fellowship,
Rad
WSEA 92 Delegate Panel 58
**Special Note**
I wanted to especially thank Nancy T. our WSEA 92 Secretary for taking the notes of the informed group conscience during the Assembly her assistance was invaluable.
