Delegates Report - March 2009
Fellow WSEA 92 Members,
The final days of March have past and what a month it has been. This last Sunday (March 29th) was the
final Area General Service Conference Agenda Workshop of the Panel 59 (2009) rotation. It was held in
Grandview, WA and was hosted by District 16 for all of WSEA 92's Spanish speaking Districts which also
include 21 and 24. The attendance was wonderful and I had a great time as I always do when
participating with Area 92's Hispanic Districts. I would like to thank Mauro P our WSEA 92 Alternate
Delegate for his leadership in putting together the Workshop and helping distribute the background
materials so important to the function of developing the informed group conscience. Unfortunately
Mauro was not able to attend the Workshop as he was not feeling well after his chemo treatment on
Thursday. True to his excellent service he wanted me to let everyone in attendance know that he was
sorry that he couldn't be there and he wanted us to all have a good Workshop that day. A very special
thank you is reserved for Virginia R who provided excellent translation for me during the Workshop. The
events success was in no small part due to Virginia’s tireless effort in making sure that everyone was
informed.
The weekend of March 21-22 was spent doing what I love to do best – traveling our Area. Saturday was
spent in Lewiston ID at the Combined Committee Quarterly (CCQ) which may have had the best
attendance that I can personally remember in a very long time. I'm going to repeat myself here by
saying that our Area has found a new source of enthusiasm for our Third Legacy of Service. Area 92
continues to push for changes that provide the best opportunity for our members to growth in sobriety
and I feel fortunate to witness it. After the CCQ I set out for Richland where I would spend the night with
Mauro and his family and be treated to their warm hospitality. On Sunday Mauro and I attended a
Concepts Workshop in Pasco in celebration of District 24’s anniversary.
The second Sunday of March was spent close to home in Cashmere putting on the Workshop for
Districts 5, 12, 19 and 23. Thanks go to District 5 for hosting the event and doing a great job. Last but not
least for the month of March was the Pacific Region Alcoholics Anonymous Service Assembly (PRAASA)
2009 held in Oakland CA March 6-8. This years' PRAASA will probably be recorded as the best attended
the Pacific Region has had to date at possibly over 1700. The scope of the meetings, presentations,
panels and workshops focused on current agenda topics of the 2009 General Service Conference, as well
as other concerns and service responsibilities within Alcoholics Anonymous. In attendance for Area 92
were Ginger R. B. Panel 48 WSEA 92 Delegate and current Non-Trustee Director on the AA Grapevine
Board, Jeff S. District 5 DCM who was attending his fist PRAASA and who also provided the Assembly
with his presentation on the topic of "Sharing Our AA History" Saturday morning as a member of the
"Changing our Perceptions" panel. One of my favorite moments of this years' PRAASA was when I found
out that a GSR (Brenda) from the "There is a Solution" Group in Kennewick District 4 was in attendance,
her Group saves up all year to put together the money for her to attend. JoAnne L Trustee at Large
(Canada) was the Saturday night speaker whose story was both humorous and heartwarming. As a
second year Delegate most of my responsibility revolved around meetings with the new panel 59
Delegates from our Region and our Pacific Region Trustee Madeleine P. As last year I presented a short
"Area Highlights", this year I highlighted our Area’s active membership. The 2010 PRAASA will be held in
Los Angeles CA at the Radisson Hotel/LAX, March 5-7. Special thanks to Jeff S for all his help in making
my stay in Oakland more enjoyable.
In News from GSO
Not much to report here. Most all of the Board reporting was in last month’s Delegates Report as well as
March's Area Newsletter. There was a AAWS Board meeting on the 13th and hopefully I'll receive a
reporting from that meeting that I can share with you in my next report. If you haven’t had a chance to
read the February/March edition of Box 459 there are articles discussing topics such as the evolution of
the General Service Conference (GSC), Beginners Meetings, the Grapevine, the phenomenon “Chain
Reactions” in AA. Other topics deal with our Declaration of Unity, Committee news and sharing from
around the world. Please check it out.
In Area News
This coming weekend (April 3-5) we will be meeting in Winthrop WA at the Sun Mountain Lodge for our
Area’s Panel 59 Spring Pre-Conference Assembly. I hope that all of you have been participating in this
year Agenda discussion in order that I may have the best informed group conscience possible during the
Assembly to help me at the GSC. I am looking forward to it.
The Pacific Northwest Conference (PNC) Committee met this last weekend in Castlegar BC and the
committee is starting to get rolling in a big way. This year’s PNC will be held in Rossland BC June 26-28.
Please visit www.pnc1948.org for more information and registration. Also the 2011 Local Forum
Committee is continuing to meet in preparation for placing our bid in 2010. From the conversations I’ve
had with committee members they tell me that the committee is going strong and generating
enthusiasm for the Forum. Right on People!
That's it for now, see you soon.
Yours in the Fellowship,
Rad M.
