WSEA 92 Assembly 2001

"Area Website" Failed Motion Information

This Motion is presented with five options to give the fellowship control over what the Area 92 Web Site might contain. If the motion carries, each option may be considered independently.

Motion F01.1   We (the Wednesday Night Big Book Study, District 8) move that Area 92 create a basic Web Site, to include Area 92 service information, with a link to GSO for reference. Said site to be overseen by a fully funded Appointed Committee Chair and will be governed by the attached guidelines.

Option 1  We recommend that the Site also include Area 92, District and Central Office/Intergroup service information.
Option 2  We recommend that the Site also include external service information as it pertains to Area 92. (PRAASA, PNWC, Regional Forms, etc.)
Option 3  We recommend that the Site also include Area 92 fellowship activities. (Speaker Meetings, Roundups, Picnics, Dances, etc.)
Option 4  We recommend that the Site also include the Area Handbook.
Option 5  We recommend that the Site also include current motions, approved by the Area Committee, with background information.
– Moved by the Wednesday Night Big Book Study, District 8,
& Seconded by District 6 in the January 2001 Quarterly

Background   This motion was originally submitted in the April 2000 WSEA 92 Quarterly by the now dissolved Area Ad Hoc Website Committee. And while it was place on the 2000 Assembly Agenda it failed to achieve the two-thirds majority needed for approval.(52% voted in favor of the motion at the 2000 Assembly.) As such, the additional information and Pros/Cons in support of last year's Website motion may be helpful in considering the above motion.

Following are the key components:

  1. New Website Committee Chair appointed by Area Officers like other standing committee chairs. This includes funding of the Chair to 3 Area quarterlies and the Assembly; 4 website committee quarterlies; a communication budget; and a website setup and maintenance budget.
  2. Basic motion would include website materials that include only Area 92 service information and activities.
  3. If the basic motion is passed then the fellowship will vote on each of the options which add additional content to the website. Any, all or none of the options may be approved. Each option is stand alone.
  4. The detail attached to the motion is lengthy and may appear complex. It was designed to provide detail on how the website would work including a position description for the Website Committee Chair and necessary changes to the Area Handbook.

If Passed   Area 92 will have a website standing committee in 2002 and a website with whatever options are chosen based upon the options the fellowship elects to have on the website. This motion would create a new fully funded committee chairperson.

If Not Passed   The Area will not develop a website per this motion but will have the opportunity to vote on a second website motion (Motion 01.2).

Note:     Key components for the above motion and If (Not) Passed information was distributed by the Area Secretary on September 7, 2001.
