The credit line lets our trusted servants select cost-effective services, and to change them as-needed, without obtaining prior approval from Area 92. A credit line also provides protection against minor fluctuations in cost, between the time a budget request is made and the Area grants approval (which can be up to 9 months or longer). Further, since the credit line merely specifies a not-to-exceed cost, the actual amount of money spent on hosting and domain name services will be less than the credit line limit.

Based on the following customary and reasonable costs, a $500 credit line for hosting and domain name purposes is appropriate.

These typical costs were determined from a June 2001 survey of web site hosting companies, summarized in the below table. Companies were chosen and hosting plans selected based on the features they offered. All selected hosting plans have the features required for our Website, most also have other desired features.(See ‘Area Website Hosting Requirements’ background information for a list of required and desired features.) The annual domain name cost of $35 is the most one can expect to pay in today’s environment: multi-year discounts are available and annual registration rates lower than $10 can be found.
