Current Practice   This motion as it reads is a one time motion for the year and Election Assembly in 1999. It would require approximately $500 to $700 to cover airfare and lodging expenses for the Pacific Region Trustee to attend the Assembly. The General Service Conference expects but does not require or demand that the Regional trustee visit their respective areas twice during the four year term they serve. Some Areas budget this expense into the Host Committee fund as a part of the Assembly cost. Research indicates that GSO can defray some of this expense. Each area should attempt to be financially responsible and self supporting if possible. Most Areas in the Pacific Region do invite and support our Regional Trustee to their voting Assemblies, especially the election Assemblies.

If Passed   If passed this motion would require a budget consideration to fund the Pacific Region Trustee to attend the Washington State East Area 92 election Assembly in Spokane.

If Not Passed   If not passed we may very well not have the attendance of our Regional trustee at the Assembly.

Pros   Trustee attendance to our Election Assembly is desirable because of the wealth of experience and perspective that can be shared. It is an opportunity for Area 92 to learn from a GSO Board Member, one that chaired the Policy and Admissions Committee and supported the creation of our Area — the first new Area in over 30 years. It is also an opportunity for the newly elected Area Delegate to talk with the Trustee.

Cons   Don't want to spend the money.

Additional Information   The 7th Tradition suggests that Area 92 support Trustee's attendance to the fullest extent possible.

Some District 4 participants also felt that by the Trustee attending our Assemblies, the Trustee could gain insights to Area 92 which may benefit other Areas and GSO. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
